WP Engine is not Real WordPress?

According to WordPress CEO WP Engine is not Real WordPress?

I came across a blog post by WordPress (Automattic) CEO Matt Mullenweg on WP Engine which provides managed wordpress hosting. According to Matt WP-Engine does not enables the WordPress revisions feature.

In Matts words..

WP Engine turns this off. They disable revisions because it costs them more money to store the history of the changes in the database, and they don’t want to spend that to protect your content. It strikes to the very heart of what WordPress does, and they shatter it, the integrity of your content. If you make a mistake, you have no way to get your content back, breaking the core promise of what WordPress does, which is manage and protect your content.

Do you really think WP Engine is an hype or as Matt says its not the actual WordPress. Does WordPress revisions really slows down the site and IDK if any managed wordpress provider will disable wordpress revisions by default in order to save storing data and thus reduce their hosting / hardware bill.

What do you think of his allegations against WP Engine?
