Buying cheap domain name is very risky? Last time I’ve got $0.99 domain from IONOS but it was not renewed and now they offer me for more than $500, and is parked with them. I think I should only buy cheap names from reputable domain company.

Yes, some registrars do offer cheap names for $0.99 or $0.50 per year for 1st year registration, and then you have to renew that domain for $15 to $20 that can be the regular registration price, failing which that domain is parked or goes to auction and then you’ll have to pay anywhere above $500. So always renew domain that you’ve bought for cheap befor the domain expiry date. I know IONOS charges a lot for domain that was not renewed in time.
@DomainSherpa
Even The-Online.com offers cheapnames via promo code during our limited-time domain promos. You can register .com or other popular domain extentions like .org, .info, .biz, .link, .top, .today, .xyz, .ooo, .shop, or even some ccTLDs like .ca, .us, .in, .de, .au for various promo pricing like 99 cent or 50 cent BUT that comes with domain expiry protection, that is domain is auto-renewed for either applicable promo pricing or regular domain renewal rate which ever is less.
We have had some cheap domain promos running for renewal too, so you could register domain for either $1 or $0.50 or $4.99 .com and renew at same price for another year. We never send expire domain to auction. It actually gets deleted after 90 days if not renewed and then you can re-register it for normal registration price at The-Online.com or other domain registration company.
Not just IONOS, but even Godaddy or Namecheap too don’t offer domain renewal coupon now-a-days. I’ve never seen a verified, working coupon or promo code on any coupon site like retailmenot. Cheap names purchased at some promo rate are generally renewed at the then renewal rate. I had few domains renewed at the-online.com with renewal coupon, but it was only for 1st year and discount was only 15% of the regular cost.
Got really cheap-names from The-Online.com this Black Friday deal at lowest $1.99 price for single .com domain. They’ve some promotions on reddit and namepros too. Moreover unlike IONOS or other European domain registrars they do not impose contract. So you transfer out or just let the domain name expire at the expiration date.
that’s quite an informative post. Thanks for letting me know The-Online.com offers cheap-names on TLDs, and mainly the .com, but I could not get this promo pricing right now?
@Andrei
Currently there is no promo pricing for .com domains. This promo already ended last month. But if you already have a customer account with us at The-Online.com, then I can add special discounted pricing for you. You’ll be able to register domain for $1.99 for the first year.
Last time I had got an email by coupon 3 days before my domain renewal date where The-Online.com customer executive offered me to renew domain name for only $6.99 that’s almost 50% OFF on their regular price. It’s really cost saving and benfited me. I used the save dollars on registerring a new domain for my web design agency.
How is cosmotown for registerring .com domains? I’ve read that their customer service is damn bad.
@Kevin,
Avoid cosmotown at all cost. They might offer cheap-names, but their domain control panel is broken. You can’t even renew or transfer domain with cosmotown, and your support tickets will never get reply for months. Read their bad reviews on trustpilot. Go with some reliable and affordable domain registration company than cosmotown or cheapnames. You’ve many reliable providers like namecheap, the-online.com, dynadot, etc.
dnyadot support good but not have promos on popular TLDs like .org, .net, .com, etc. Same with porkbun. Godaddy does not have renewal coupons. Today many registrars are promoting new gTLDs like .xyz, .ooo, .top, .link, .etc. But I want to see low cost pricing on .com domain. I’ve like more than 200 of them and all have active websites.
