My domain truepath is not ranking after changing url structure
I’m running a web solutions agency and have domain name which sells website builder, custom web design etc with a name “true path“. The site earlier was having URL structure as domain/store/website-builder and now on advice of SEO expert I changed the urls to domain/website-builder. That is I eliminated the store directory and directly put product URLs under the root. But my Google and Bing ranking has dropped since last 2 months. Though Google has indexed new pages, they are not that highly ranked anymore. Does chaning URL structure of a website affects its ranking and visibility? And how to overcome this?
Ranking takes time to improve when URL structure is changed. You should implement correct 301 redirect using .htaccess file to new URLs. Also all backlinks pointing to your old URLs must be updated to point to new URL structure so that Google and Bing will rank them quite fast and you’ll see the old ranking and improvement in it. Search engines love short URLs and don’t like to hop over subfolders. So your step is quite right that you’ve eleminated the subfolder and moved pages right under the root of the domain.
