Starlink Gets License from DoT in India

Starlink to start internet services in India as it receives GMPCS permit from DoT

Starlink has become the latest entrant in India’s satellite communications market, as the Elon Musk-owned company received the Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) permit from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Starlink will need to demonstrate compliance with all requirements laid out by the Centre, including the stipulated security conditions after it is allocated the spectrum by Indian gov. Starlink must now obtain approval from the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), which is India’s space regulator.

What could be the Internet access price of Starlink?

The price of unlimited internet access plan can be Rs 3000 per month for Starklink internet services. People in rural areas will benefit more from Starlink as its satellite-based internet provider which does not requires fiber or mobile towers to provide internet services.

    Monthly unlimited data plan is expected to cost Rs 3,000.

    Setup cost for the Starlink kit is estimated at Rs 33,000. It will include a satellite dish and necessary equipment.

    Starlink might provide 25–220 Mbps of high-speed internet.

    Additionally, the company wants to provide speeds quick enough for telehealth, education, remote work, and streaming.
