ICANN domain fee to be shot up to $0.20 per year
ICANN told registeries and domain registrars like The Online that plan to increase the per year domain fee (aka tax) from $0.18 to $0.20 in year 2025. Prices in all gTLDs like .com, .net, .org, .store, .shop, .xyz, etc will go up by 2 cents. This is a 11% increase in ICANN domain fee. An email was sent from ICANN VP Russ Weinstein to registrars this evening regarding the fee increase.
Though this fee increase will not affect small domain investors, but it will certainly affect large domain portfolio owners who have 1000+ domains.
What are the ICANN fees per domain we are paying now?
Currently for gTLDs and new TLDs both, ICANN charges a fee for $0.18 per domain per year. And thats gonna go up by 2 cents.
I registered domain with The Online registrar and was charged $0.18 for one year as ICANN fee. some registrars like namecheap, namesilo, spaceship, 123-reg, bigrock, charge them within the domain registration fee i think. But The-Online.com shows is seprately in the invoice generated.
I had domain name registered with godaddy and it cannot be transferred to another registrar of choice. Whome to contact? Can ICANN help me with domain transfer?
Yes, every registrar on the earth has to follow the ICANN rules and regulations regarding domain registration, renewal and transfer. If your registrar (godaddy) is not helping to get your domain transferred out you may contact ICANN.
is ICANN fee manadtory? I mean I have to pay $0.18 for every domain registration, every year? or is it one-time tax?
Yes, ICANN fee is charged with every domain registration, transfer and renewal. Its fixed to $0.18 per year per domain name. ICANN has right to increase or decrease it. EVERY domain registrar will have to charge you this amount as ICANN fee. They may show it in invoice or not.
