GlobeNewswire is used as Parasite

Seems GlobeNewswire is used as parasite to rank affiliate offers and CTA disguised press release

Recently like many reddit users I too was contacted by a PR agency which gave me an offer to advertise my CTA (call to action) offer on GlobeNewswire – a press release distribution site. The price they quoted for single press release was $350 which includes links to my CTA offer disguised as a press release instead of advertorial. This seem to be cool offer. When I checked Google SERP I’ve found many affiliates have started using “GlobeNewswire” site to publish CTA offer as press release. That included offers related to pharma, dating, software and app downloading, xgaming, loan, etc. As Reddit, Quora and Medium are not highly ranking in Google now-a-days, the affiliates have turned to press release sites. You’ll find even Yahoo Finance and ActiveNewswire highly ranking for CTA terms and keywords.

What do you think? Will next Google Core Update penalize thesee press release site in same way just like what Google did to Forbes and CNN pages which were promoting gambling and CBD offers.

  1. Earlier Globlenewswire was quite genuine. But after the Google March core update when most parasites got hit, personal and business pages that were used for black hat marketing techniques tanked in SERP, then, the affiliate marketers went to reddit, quora and medium.com to write about their CTA offers. But Google then de-ranked such pages. Even few of my medium blogs having long articles were pushed down in SERP. At same time people started using authority sites like Globe-newswire and other newswire sites where their resellers or the sites themselves started charging $300 to $400 or even more for single CTA article or promoted article disguised as a genuine press release. In 2025 you’ll see lots of press release promoting gambling, casino, dating, ecommerce, etc in Google because Google ranks those sites higher and so affiliate markters are using them as parasite website to promote their offers and get leads. May be in coming or future Google Core update such sites could be penalized. Certainly as a user I will not like to read a CBD related offer as press release.

  2. Here’s what I found on youtube regarding Globenewswire used as parasite website in 2025. I think many marketers are now using press release distribution sites to gain more views to their offers, products and services as Google and Bing ranks press release sites quite higher and are also trusted. But using such site’s and publishing offer concealed as a press release is not good in long term.

  3. sadly globenewswire seems to got hit with a penalty. they are no more accepting affiliate offers which are shown as press release. According to SEMrush the traffic fall by more than 10% as of June 28th, 2025. Also the overall keywords fall 35%. While another press release site used as parasite “accessnewswire” gained traffic. They are charing $150 for 1 article. Seems access newswire will be the next site to get hit because of spamming google results!!
