Paid and Free ChatGPT plans started using indexed web pages and URLs from Google Search
ChatGPT – the popular AI search engine has now started using google search index, that is, those URLs indexed in google search have started showing while we search on ChatGPT/searchgpt.
A user posted a case study wherein they created a new page on a made keyword which was never indexed on google, bing or chatgpt. And then added the page to google search console (GSC) and strictly made it to index in Google. After it got indexed in 2-3 days, the user tried to search the said keyword on chatgpt and surprisingly chat-gpt returned a web result mentioning the domain and linking to the exact URL that was first and only indexed by Google. This also means chatgpt seems to have dropped Bing search results from displaying in the chats! While the user claimed that chatGPT paid plans are showing google indexed URL, but even free account users are also been shown results from Google search index.
SEO consultant Jagdish Prajpat said that:
There is no need to optimize pages for AI search engines or AI overviews. A well optimized website for google and bing which uses right meta tags, schema markup, images and helpful content as easily ranked in AI searches like chatgpt, perplexity, claude, gemini and copilot. No need to LLMs.txt file or any Generative Engine Optimization needed.
Another SEO consultant found in a study that Chatgpt uses google specific parameter “srsltid” in the results which confirms its heavy reliance on google than on bing. Plus chatgpt has become smart in rendering javacript content indexed by google.
