How domain protection is different than domain privacy?
I came across a feature called Domain Protection on The-Online.com while registerring new domain name. What is the basic difference between domain proctection and domain privacy (that is offered for free). Upon calling their support they said: there is Full Domain Protection and Ultimate Domain Protection (which auto renews your domain if the payment fails and keeps your domain renewed for additional one year). I want to know the details of this feature.

Domain privacy is just masking/hidding your personal information that is name, email, address, telephone number which is available to public via domain whois search. While, Domain Protection feature is geared towards protecting your valuable domain name from illegal transfer, hacking, deletion, and hijacking of domain. Domain protection helps with unauthorised actions like DNS changes, nameserver changes, and transferring out to a hacker. It ensures security, integrity and ownership by leverging additional layer of firewall. At The Online, domain protection includes domain privacy too. While ultimate domain protection also saves your domain from deletion if your credit card or payment mode fails. So your domain is not lost or deleted for up to additional 1 year. It’s quite important and helpful feature to secure your domain from competitors or domain holders (who will buy it upon expiry at retail price of $15 and then contact you to sell it to you for $1500 or more).
Domain protection is the process of securing your website’s domain name from potential risks like unauthorized access and misuse.
I have bought Domain Protection while registerring domain. It really helps with Accidental domain expiration — whether your domain has expired due to issues with payments or the auto-renew feature has been disabled, your website won’t load, and if the domain is not reactivated in time, it will cost money to recover it. To recover a deleted .com domain it costs about $100 (restore cost paid to registry). But buying domain protection saves from the huge cost plus there is peace of mind.
The domain protection feature saved me from unauthorized dns changes. My account was compromised but the hacker was not able to change the DNS settings, like A record that points to my hosting server IP address to some malicious site. That would be loss of my reputation and google would have marked my website as unsafe from browsing thereby loosing sales.
In my view domain protection service is a domain-level security feature which not only shields your personal information via whois privacy, plus, adds extra level of security whereby your domain name can’t be transferred out (with 2FA, or additional password), no one can make unauthorised changes to your DNS like IP address of your server, and no one can delete your domain even if it gets expired. That’s why I purchased it here at The Online. Because I run a huge ecommerce site with 1000s of orders a day.
