Make above-the-fold area of your webpage work better to increase dwell time

Most SEOs charge $1000 fee to advice you about this! But I'm giving this tip for free. To increase high dwell time for your site you must work on the above-the-fold area for your webpage. This is the first 3-4 seconds where visitors stick their eyes and decide whether to browse the webpage further or close down the site or hit back button on the browser!

Tips to increase and get high dwell time for your website:

  • Always put H1 or the Title of your page above-the-fold.
  • Attach sticky table of contents or short summary at the top.
  • Push down the ads towards second paragraph or on sidebar.
  • Add author credits at the top in a single line. No paragraph.
  • Use scroll-stopping image or some info graphic which attracts attention.

This results in increase in the dwell time of your site visitors. The more minutes a user stays on your web page it will increase trust in eyes of Google as Google collects site browsing data from Chrome browser and nearly 90% of internet users use Chrome.

From my own experience of coupon site and recipe site I'm running I found 2.5x increase in dwell time. I’ve tried to put h1 heading tag just below the navigation, and then a quick sticky image about the news article, and 2 to 3 bullet points explaining the article in short. This has attracted the attention of the readers and they are waiting above-the-fold before scrolling down.
